and at the end, you will beg the government to implant a GPS in you, with camera and audio, so every move you make and every breath you take can be recorded and monitored. And you will looooooove it too! Like your Big Brother…. Like your 500 (fake) friends in facebook.HELLO!

    lame TED talk this week

  • 4 nazdun // Feb 27, 2009 at 3:54 pm

Not the strongest speaker, but a very interesting talk nontheless. We need more ways of spreading information more easily.

“Evan Williams on what’s behind Twitter’s explosive growth”Explosive growth? Isn’t that a bit of an overstatement?

Not one of the best TED talks, and pretty short, but i love TED anyway! :D

seems fun. my opinion stands that people need to mind their own business

  • 19 chilenozo // Feb 27, 2009 at 7:54 pm

I don’t think it is so paranoid. I don’t think governments will start this, but some may take advantage in the future. The fact that we voluntary are letting our privacy go away with facebook (some employers are using it to pre-screen), Twitter (individuals are constantly spamming about anything they do), etc can make the work for a controlling government much more easy in the near future. Technology go so fast that humans are showing they can’t adapt their laws, ethics, habits, etc, to it.

  • 23 andid // Feb 28, 2009 at 12:49 am

I usually like technology, but this just seems useless. Aren’t cell phones enough loss of privacy? I don’t get it.

  • 27 academiccuriosity // Feb 28, 2009 at 7:58 am

I have a hard time knowing what to think about Twitter. On the one hand, yes it gives people a way to share information instantaneously. But, just IMAGINE the number of people at Obama’s Inauguration who, instead of actually watching the historical moment, were instead tweeting about it. The problem is that if you’re doing something cool enough to tweet, then you’re too busy to tweet.

  • 28 HigherPlanes // Feb 28, 2009 at 7:58 am

  • 29 arev1977 // Feb 28, 2009 at 8:31 am

  • 31 Azoruk // Feb 28, 2009 at 9:48 am

I, for one, am not particularly interested with twitter. This hardly seems worthy of a TED talk.

This type of TED talk is like an entry in a really awesome high school science fair, and that is all right with me. He needs better presentation skills, but is probably insanely nervous (think about who is there! and he knows people are twittering!) — much like a science fair student. Some people are far too critical of other humans and their attempts to be better than they are.

  • 58 quakey987 // Mar 2, 2009 at 9:58 am

This cat should really get down on his knees and thank God for technology and his success financial every day. Twitter is an application of technology that is eminently obvious ,almost a creation in itself, I guess someone had to invent it , I’ll bet many just discarded the idea because they thought it too mundane , I’ll give him credit for that at least. Now everyone thinks he has something important to offer the business world or society at large . I think not

  • 59 BlaccChief // Mar 2, 2009 at 8:14 pm

I can see some practical applications of twitter. I actually thought the gas thing was pretty cool. Facebook, eh, I guees some people may just want their face out there and it helps for meeting people that are not just in your area.

  • 60 Zombiebloodfeast // Mar 3, 2009 at 5:09 am

Perhaps he merely doesn’t feel comfortable in the spot light.I myself like the work to speak for itself, and find it difficult to say anything interesting about anything I might do. I often come across as unsure, when really I just think trying to upsell oneself sounds kinda shameless. He doesn’t seem to be bragging, just unsure of what else to say. Don’t tell me you would be comfortable up there trying to justify why you’ve been chosen to be on the same stage as some very brilliant minds

  • 61 dsgncr8or // Mar 3, 2009 at 1:52 pm

We need more products that allows us to help eachother… pretty kewl.

  • 62 8ballbreakandrun // Mar 3, 2009 at 8:52 pm

It wasn’t 2.12 a gallon for gas in Loganville when we recently had our difficulties. It was 4.60 or so per gallon.

  • 63 gotilk // Mar 4, 2009 at 9:46 am

A friend of mine recently came up with a word to describe the battle against this type of thing and I helped her do it. She called it “googlewhelming”.You create so much information, (boring, uninteresting information) associated with your full name, that any employer trying to dig into your personal life as a way to “screen” you (sorry, it is what it is.. stalking) will become so bored after about 45 min, they give up and either hire you for your abilities or move on.

hmmm, i’m getting closer and closer to my first tweet

  • 68 787Bisurdaddy // Mar 11, 2009 at 1:27 pm

He’s not really engaging the audience, but nonetheless, I found it interesting to hear about the various ways people actually use Twitter, especially since I don’t because I found it to be rather pointless. I was wrong.I tend to be behind the curve a bit because I only use my phone for talking and limited texting. I don’t have a Blackberry or anything, so I try to avoid cumbersome ancillary functions, but those functions are getting more and more useful every day.

  • 69 787Bisurdaddy // Mar 11, 2009 at 1:30 pm

If I ever find the interface that I feel comfortable with, I’ll dive into those functions and probably use things like Twitter, but I really haven’t found a device that I like enough yet.The ability to have so much information available at our fingertips is quite extraordinary when you consider how much different things were only 15 years ago.

  • 70 HigherPlanes // Mar 14, 2009 at 10:25 am

It’s not just twitter. it’s the web. Why is the web so luring? It gives us a voice. Plain and simple. and if that confuses anyone you haven’t thought about it long enough.

  • 71 normskis69 // Mar 17, 2009 at 8:27 pm

I hadn’t heard of Twitter before today. Myspace/Facebook with the addition of ‘Tweets’. I’m sure it’s useful/profitable.Can someone solve this problem?I wish there was a way of never having to see another pop up or ‘roll-over’ advert ever again.Roll over ads should be banned because they prevent you from using a portion of your screen:The advert pops up in the foreground of whatever you’re viewing and won’t go until you physically look at it and click ‘x’.Disgusting

  • 72 achance000 // Mar 19, 2009 at 12:36 am

  • 92 RaiSaix // May 5, 2009 at 6:38 pm

I’m sorry, but I would have to agree. Twitter is a somewhat pointless application, and wastes time better spent doing something real with your time, rather than fooling yourself with the notion that people actually care about what your doing every second of everyday.

  • 93 ImOnTheTube // May 9, 2009 at 2:16 pm

Twitter is something that again shows the true face of our present society’s attention seeking unstable egos. We have to know everything about everyone so we can compare our lives to others just to see if were worth more, less or about the same. Is this really how we want to spend our time? Besides, live news feeds were invented a long time ago. If you have something important to say to someone you gain enough courage to meet them personally or at least give them a call. Absolute crap.

  • 94 cygnus1899 // May 21, 2009 at 6:40 pm

the only reason twitter is what it is today because so many celebrates got twitter and you can stalk celebrates. Twitter will be a flash in the pan once the celebrates move the people will move with the celebrates. Trust me in 3 years time people will be say stuff like twitter omg that’s so retro . The future is video and live web cam feeds the faster internet will become the better quality live feeds will become.
