Wow – I have never been to New Zealand, but I would love to go. This is my kind of hiking, enjoy the nice outdoors but sleep somewhere nice in the evening, no have to carry all your stuff, you could most likely talk me into this.
Well what I say about hiking in New Zealand is no bears, no snakes, no wild cats.
I have hiked in Canada and I have seen bears three times in the wild, twice in Ontario and once in British Columbia.
@: When we walked in New Zealand (I wouldn’t say we hiked as that would be too grand a name for what we did), we did say, hey there are no bears or snakes here! On one trail ride in Alberta, Canada, we saw a mountain lion and a bear. My horse bolted when it saw the bear (just a cub), but fabulous horsewoman that I am, I managed to hang on! I definitely want to return to NZ to do some real hiking!
No fear of animals so enjoy in new zealand this vacation!
@Cath: Cheers Cath, you are always welcome downunder

So, as I can understand, hiking New Zealand is not extremal at all – but I’m fond of extre,al travelling and watching such dangerous representatives of fauna as snakes, bears and even poisonous spiders!
