If you are in the Wairarapa Valley you are in luck, the Flight of the Conchords are playing at Masterton’s 2000-seater Genesis Recreation Centre on March 31st, at the bargain rate of $NZ40, $US20.
Already a steal at the previously reported $50, Makoura’s most famous son, Jemaine Clement, has announced tickets for the March 31 gig would drop to $40 ($US20) in an effort to ensure the one-off show is accessible to the entire community.
The duo’s “acoustic-digi-bongo-acapella-rap-funk-comedy-folk sound” has won them a devoted international following and is a huge coup for Makoura.
Tickets for shows in North America go for anywhere from $US50 – $US1100 (New York).
Masterton is a farming community in the heart of the Wairarapa Valley, about 2 hours north of Wellington the capital city. It is 45 mins from the Martinborough Wine Region. Normally an emmy award winning band would not play in Masterton, but it would require residents to travel to Wellington’s Fowler Center or Westpace Stadium for it to be viable (Coldplay is touring currently).
Jemaine and Bret are performing because Masterton is Jemaine’s home town. He went to Makoura College and has on numerous occassions expressed his fondness for the valley.

No wonder they’re returning– what a beautiful valley! Always good to see when people remember “their roots” though.
Interesting blog! Enjoyed reading.

Hey, nice RSS button!
Anyway I’m going to be in New Zealand in July, just wondering if there’s been any news of concerts since?

@Jonk: They are currently touring North America to sell out crowds.
They are then working on some features while deciding whether to do the 3rd series. Here is probably the best fan site.
