Anna Paquin is playing Irena Sendler, a Polish resistance member during the Second World War, in a made for TV movie on CBS.
John Kent Harrison wrote the script and will direct. On November 14th, 2008 the U.S. film studio “Hallmark Hall of Fameâ€, in cooperation with the film production company Gillham Road Productions Inc. started shooting the feature film “Miss Irena’s Children†in Riga, Latvia. Riga Old Town with its cobblestone streets and courtyards was chosen in the competition of eight cities as the most appropriate one for shooting the film about the events, which took place during World War II. It is the first time that a U.S. film studio shoots a film in Latvia. The movie’s title was updated. it’ll be released on April 19, with the title “The Courageous Heart of Irena Sendler”.
Irena Sendler (Irena Sendlerowa; de domo Krzyżanowska; February 15, 1910 – May 12, 2008) was a Polish Catholic social worker. During World War II, she was a member of the Polish Underground and the resistance organization in Warsaw. Sendler saved 2,500 Jewish children by smuggling them out of the Warsaw Ghetto, providing false documents and sheltering them in individual or group children’s homes outside the ghetto. Her story was brought to light when students from Kansas found her story in a magazine and popularized it in a play, titled “Life in a Jar”.

“Life in a jar” is a play, they found it in a magazine. Cheers for your comment
I must say I do like old war movies. I hope this one is executed in good taste. A great movie I watched recently and that I would strongly recommend is “The Reader” staring Kate Winslet – 4.5/5
I saw The Reader and was not happy with it. I would give it a 3/5. I thought it dragged on.
Movie Extra´s last blog ..How do I get a voiceover career start?
I’ve read “Life In a Jar” and have to say that Irene certainly secured her place in heaven with her noble work. I’d definitely look to see the movie which features her work.
This is a touching and wonderful true story. The first time I saw it on TV I had to have the DVD. It is amazing what Sendler did to save so many children during WWII, yet few have heard this story. Sendler touched so many lives.
