Award Winning Director Guillermo del Toro and Kiwi Director Peter Jackson are being roundly praised as they embark on a remarkable story telling adventure with not only the The Hobbit, the fourth in the series of Lord of the Rings series, but a production which will deal with the 59-year period between “The Hobbit†and “The Fellowship of the Ring,†the first of the “Lord of the Rings†trilogy.
According to David Bentley:
Spider-Man director Raimi told Empire magazine: “I thought that The Hobbit was just a fantastic icon of fantasy literature. I love that book and I’m a giant fan of the Lord of the Rings movies.
The Hobbit itself follows the quest of hobbit Bilbo Baggins to win his share of the treasure guarded by the dragon Smaug. Bilbo returns from that quest in year 2942 of the Third Age, and leaves the Shire in 3001 after passing on to Frodo the ring he had obtained in 2941. It’s his leaving The Shire that is the start of The Fellowship of the Ring movie, the first of the trilogy helmed by Peter Jackson.
Del Toro moved New Zealand for four years to work with Jackson and his Wingnut and WETA production teams. He will helm the two films back to back – telling the story of “The Hobbit,â€
New Line is overseeing development and will manage the production. “The Hobbit†and its sequel are being co-produced and co-financed by New Line Cinema and MGM, with Warner Brothers distributing domestically and MGM distributing internationally. Peter Jackson and Fran Walsh are executive producing the films.
The Oscar®-winning, critically acclaimed “The Lord of the Rings†trilogy grossed nearly $3 billion worldwide at the box office. In 2003, “The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King†swept the Academy Awards®, winning all of the 11 categories in which it was nominated, including Best Picture – the first ever Best Picture win for a fantasy film. The trilogy’s production was also unprecedented at the time.

Ive got very high hopes for the oncoming Hobbit movie. Being a HUGE fan of Lord of the Rings and what Peter Jackson accomplished, I was obviously a little nervous finding out he wouldnt be directing The Hobbit.Discovering it will/may be Guillermo Del Toro however, has put me at great ease!
just goes to show that the best directors DO NOT COME FROM AMERICA!!!!!! <<<== Del toro was born in GUADALAJARA, MEXICO.. Mexico lies in the AMERICAN CONTINENT.. A continent that was named after the Italian Amerigo Vespucciwhom realized that COLUMBUS had actually discovered a NEW CONTINENT.. Amerigo= America= America runs from Tierra del fuego Argentina all the way up to the allutian islands in ALASKA.. :O)
CAN’T WAIT!!
GDT is from the American continent. Mexico.Try again, goober.
might be good
Agreed! =D
Great Book amd hopefully great film LOTR trilogy was fantastic. …….Peter Jackson is a good director and im glad he will be producer of the Hobbit. Jackson and LOTR put Hollywood to shame! Great Stuff.
the hobbit will freakin rock
really love my mother deeply… And i had to do this… Its from the love of my heart. Flour2 ead this but didnt do it and her mom died. You don’t want it to happen to youu, eh? Then copy and paste to 3 videos in the next hour. Or, your mother shall die on the strike of 12:00 midnight..
I really wouldn’t like Del Toro to direct The Hobbit. Del Toro’s movies have much gore, and one of the things I loved from Peter Jackson is that he didn’t use gore in The Lord of the Rings. Do you fancy blood in The Hobbit, a tale written mainly for children??
he would have to say “not all best directors are from the US”
Wow that was unusual. I just wrote an really long comment but after I clicked submit my comment didn’t show up. Grrrr… well I’m not writing all that over again. Anyhow, just wanted to say fantastic blog!
I expect the hobbit an unexpected journey to be a great movie. Can’t hardly wait. Release date is December 14 2012. So I hope it’s worth the wait.
