Angry Zune users threaten to return their Zune Players on Zune Insider.
One reader ripped the company for not telling customers early on that the update was pushed back. “I just don’t get why no one let us know before because the Zune team blatantly must have known before today that they weren’t gonna make the [...]

Too tough for Zune
March 19th, 2007 · 3 Comments
My post on the weekend about the impending doom for Zune created a lot of feedback. Most of it was positive but some was negative and their were the usual supporters from the “Microsoft can do no wrong” cult. Here is some responses to the feedback:
IPod was successful because it was cool
Those of you [...]
Zune Really Irrelevant Product (RIP)
March 17th, 2007 · 18 Comments
I have written a number of posts about the so called iPod killer, the Zune Player and it’s debut on the market. As of today, the Zune Player is a failure:
From Roughly Drafted:
•Apple 72.7%
•Sandisk 8.9%
•Microsoft 3.2%
•Creative Labs 2.9%
•Samsung 2.0%
Once again, NPD’s numbers only cover retailers that supply it with data, which excludes Apple, Costco, [...]

The Microsoft VP behind the MS branded door-stop called Zune has left the building. Bryan Lee, corporate vice president of Microsoft’s entertainment unit, and lead for the Zune player has taken early retirement from Microsoft according to AP. Zune not so shareable

The Zune apparently does not share all the songs from the Zune Store. What is and isn’t shareable is up to the record company. You can read more at P2PNet.
As more information gets out, the crappier the experience…..

Not so happy New Year for Zune
December 31st, 2006 · 1 Comment
TheZune player continues to struggle against strong competition from it’s own “Playsforsure” partners Creative and SansDisk, both soundly beating the Zune player in sales.
“Apple has dominated sales of MP3 players almost since it entered the market five years ago. In contrast, there are already questions about how sustainable Microsoft’s Zune sales will be. NPD’s own [...]
Spoke too Zune
December 8th, 2006 · 2 Comments
Although Microsoft was busy being quitely confident about the first weeks sales taking 2nd place behind the ubiquitous IPod, the Zune dropped to 5th place in the second week behind the 2nd place SanDisk, 3rd place Creative and fourth place Memorex.
Zune captured 2.1 percent of the portable music player market, dropping from 9% in [...]

Too Zune to make conclusions?
November 27th, 2006 · No Comments
The release of the Zune Player has been, despite the concerted PR effort, as exciting as a new flavour of Heinz beans. Unlike the chaos and excitement of the launching of the Wee Wii and the Playstation 3, the Zune was met with a chorus of negative reviews.
My favorite is Andy Ihnatko of Sun Time [...]
Zune on Arrival
November 17th, 2006 · No Comments
The delivery of the Zune player to the market came and went on Tuesday. There were no long lines of bleary eyed gamesters, no mad rush, crushing crowds or excited Japanese teenagers unlike the cult like delivery of the Playstation yesterday. This probably does not mean terribly much in the longer run but as someone [...]
Microsoft rolls over for Universal

Mega music oligopoly Universal Records pushed Microsoft into a corner today after they inked a download deal for the Zune Marketplace one week before it was due to go live.
Universal Music, a unit of Vivendi, will receive a royalty on the Zune player in exchange for licensing its recordings for Microsoft’s new digital music [...]
