Indie Music Mix 11 - Looking at the World and The Skye

January 14th, 2007 · No Comments

The idea behind Indie Music Mix is to present three or four independent tracks each week to get people thinking.  These tracks are aimed at the Generation Xers and cover a wide variety of music from all over the world. This weeks influences include David Grey, Sheryl Crow, Norah Jones and others. All this weeks music is courtesy of Podshow Music at http://music.podshow.com.

Track One - Skye  Derek James - New York

The hard working New York based singer/songwriter Derek James released the Album Stray in 2005 from Howling Records. Included was Skye a simple and clean ballad from Derek. James has performed in Australia, France and the US.  Skye is reminiscent of David Grey. You can find Derek at http://www.derekjamesmusic.com.

Track Two - What in the World - Di Sheldon - Tennesse

What in the World is from the Album ‘Waiting’ from MD Records. Many have likened her sound to artists such as; Sheryl Crow and Sarah McLachlan.  While working on the songs from Waiting it was important to Di that her CD contained enough song and vocal diversity so that people of all ages, races, and creeds could find something to relate to in her music. Sheldon has a clear melodic sound that has wide appeal to the Gen X demographic. You can find Di at http://www.disheldon.com.

Track Three = You don’t Cry - Fionna Faulk  - Northeast Ohio

From ‘The Stadium of Saints Project’ project, Fionna has a sound something like Norah Jones meets Alanis Morisette meets Jewel. “My songs are everything to me. They’re there when I don’t have anyone else to talk to and pick me up when I feel like I’m in the worst place in the world. They always know how I feel without ever having to say a single word.” Says Fionna. You can find Fionna at http://www.fionnafaulk.com and Podshow Music

Track Four - Hey City - Emme Packer - Salt Lake City Utah
From the album “Better Luck Next Time” comes “Hey City” a wonderfully crafted tune reminding of Lisa Loeb among others. Emme Packer was born and raised in a small town just outside of Salt Lake City, UT. The youngest of 7 children and looking for a place to fit in she taught herself to sing and play guitar at the age of 14. You can find Emme at http://www.emmepacker.com and Podshow Music
