Today’s show is from Addison Texas, the alternative enclave in Dallas/Fort Worth that looks more like Austin (the music center of Texas). That being said, I have a warning, today is fast paced rock from Toronto, Latin Jazz from La Plata, and contemporary pop/jazz from Seattle. So if you don’t mind it being mixed up or “JackFMed” (I didn’t know there was a term for this) you can listen on.

Five Star Fall

Five Star Fall is from the not so far north indie city of Toronto. Mercurial Girl is a fast paced rock ditty. The Album is Automatic Ordinary: From the opening guitar loop of “Mercurial Girl” to the trippy Melotron vibe of “Between Two Floors”, 5 Star Fall doesn’t do anything the obvious way. Not in this lifetime anyway. If it can be manipulated or played with, these restless Canadian lads are ready to get their hands dirty, calling into service everything from retro analog effects pedals and Kraftwerk-era drum machines to self-sampling and the most current software.

Mutandian

Next up some Latin Jazz, Mutandina from La Plata Argentina. Mutandina means “mixing”. Mutandina mixes styles from jazz, funk, salsa, pop, rock and Brazilian. There is so much good music from South America, Mutandina are another example this. The album is self named Mutandina and is available from Magnatune.

West Exit

Thirdly is The West Exit from Seattle. The title track of the album is Nocturne. Sexy, ambient dance grooves move under layers of synthesizers & keyboards. Beautifully haunting & catchy vocal melodies float provocatively over the music telling stories of love lost, gained, & coveted. Merging the acoustic & the electric, mixing soulful chords with funky beats; The West Exit is a sultry blend of pop, R&B, & electronic music.

In between we have clips from Abbott and Costello and Sherlock Holmes.
